18 FOOTERS AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP - HEAT 5
by Leigh Maloney on 11 Dec 2000
The Computer Associates 18-foot skiff Championship to be decided Sunday (10
Dec) has been thrown completely open with the capsize of John Winning's AMP
CENTREPOINT in Saturday's 5th Heat on Sydney Harbour.
Winning's nose dive dost him dearly, puting AMP into 9th place in the
second last heat, surrendering his overall points lead to John Harris' RAG
& FAMISH HOTEL.
Harris now holds a narrow points margin at 16.7 over AMP (18) with Trevor
Barnabas' OMEGA SMEG in 3rd place overall on 19.7. A 13th for Matt
Felton's MICROSOFT in Saturday's race has put the youngest crew on the
water into 4th place overall.
A win in Sunday's final heat could give any of the top three the National
title.
The top 15 boats from the Australian Championships will qualify for the J J
Giltinan World Championship for 18-foot skiffs to be sailed on Sydney
Harbour in January.
The public can watch all the thrills of Sunday's final heat of the Computer
Associates Australian Championship on the public spectator ferry which
departs Double Bay Wharf at 2:15pm sharp. Tickets only $12.
