Wellington’s Evans Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Club opened the 2013/14 season with the Club Patron, the Mayor of Wellington in attendance as well as other dignitaries and the launch of 'Argo' a new Lancer RL440 Coach.

The opening was well attended and had a day full of events, a parade of sail, blessing, and speeches.

The event was marked by the launching of a new 4.4 metre chase boat built by Lancer Industries Ltd. EBYMBC worked with Lancer to create a fully customised boat that met the clubs requirements.

EBYMBC spokesman Neil Currie said 'We were looking for a boat to meet our inshore events and could not find exactly what we wanted. We have worked with Lancer for over 10 years and have always been impressed with their ability to make a boat to meet our needs'

EBYMBC required a smaller boat to their existing 6m Lancer, to be used for events close to the club, including sail training programmes and events organised by affiliated Clubs. The need was for a safe boat that maximises work space for safe crew handling.

The result is a spacious vessel with an internal fuel tank and under floor ducting. This creates a clean uncluttered space for marker buoys and equipment and crew. Extra fair leads, davit lifting, hydraulic steering and a compact safety ladder help with the ergonomics.

'Working with EBYMC was fantastic; they had a clear understanding of what made a good boat and some great ideas. We used this and our experience to create a boat that really met their requirements' says General Manager of Lancer Charles Winstone. 'It is easy to take an 'off the shelf' package, but often these do not meet what a club wants'

Lancer has over 40 years of providing support boats to sailing from local clubs to the America’s Cup. They also provide support boats to many clubs and their boats are used by Yachting New Zealand. For further information visit Lancer Website

EBYMC has a full calendar of sailing over summer and is encouraging people who would like to get involved in sailing to contact them on EBYMBC Website

EBYMBC would like to thank the sponsors of the RL440
