ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Nominee - Erika Heineken

by ISAF on 8 Oct 2013
Erika Heineken in action during the 2012 IKA Course Racing World Championship Roberto Foresti
It was a case of sister like brother at the 2012 IKA Course Racing World Championship in Cagliari, Italy as Erika Heineken reveled in her first World Championship success with brother Johnny. Good starts mixed with impeccable speed combined with finesse and a desire to grasp the World title culminated in an impressive week for the American.

In the strongest female kiteboarding fleet ever assembled Heineken was at her absolute best, she had to be. The 42-strong fleet showcased some of the finest talent on the planet but Heineken was strong and notched up 11 race victories. Three second place finishes blighted a near faultless week for the American as she claimed gold.

In 2013, Heineken continued to race at the highest level amongst some of the best male kiteboarders in the world, including brother and male ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year nominee Johnny.

Out of seven events Heineken has only once finished runner-up to another woman once in the qualifying period and is a role model to female kiteboaders, dedicating her time to junior programs.

As well as Worlds success she not only boasts the North American title but the organisational know how as she took a leading role in planning the successful event which saw 72 sailors race in San Francisco.

Joining Heineken as a female nominee for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year 2013 are Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie (NZL), Deneen Demourkas (USA) and Raiya Al-Habsi Click here to view Erika Heineken's ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Nominee Page.

The winners are selected by the ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs), the national governing bodies for sailing around the world. The MNAs are now invited to vote for the male and female nominee they believe most deserves the Award.

The winners will be announced at the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards presentation and dinner, taking place on Tuesday 12 November 2013. The venue for the event will be at the El Bander Hotel, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

Each winner will be presented with the prestigious ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award Trophy and a distinctive Rolex ISAF World Sailor website
