Vendee Globe Finish For Francois Gabart (Fra) / Macif After 78d 02h 16mn 40sec DPPI / Vendee Globe http://www.vendeeglobe.org/en/
Ocean racing pin-up boy François Gabart (FRA) sailed into the history books on 27 January 2013 when, at 29-years-old, he completed the gruelling Vendée Globe track in record time to become the youngest winner of the round the world race.

Gabart's speed was impressive and at an average speed of 14.7 knots it took him 78 days, two hours, 16 minutes and 40 seconds to cover 27,512.07 miles shaving six days and 53 minutes off the previous race record.

Sailing the 60ft Monohull MACIF Gabart reached peaks that had never been seen in the Vendée Globe before.

In early December 2012 Gabart shattered not only the Singlehanded Monohull 24 hour distance record but the 60ft Monohull for good measure as well. The Frenchman's distance of 534.48 NM obliterated the previous singlehanded record of 468.72 NM set during the 2003 Vendée Globe. The distance also surpassed Jean Pierre-Dick and Loick Peyron's monohull record of 506.33NM set during the 2011 Barcelona World Race.

Ahead of the Vendée Globe Gabart took second place in the Europa Warm'Up and first place in the B to B Transat. Victory at the Vendée Globe then gave Gabart points towards claiming the IMOCA World Champion crown becoming the first sailor to win the title and the Vendée Globe in the same year.

Joining Gabart as a male nominee for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year 2013 are Mathew Belcher (AUS), Johnny Heineken (USA), Paul Larsen (AUS) and Ian Williams Click here to view Francois Gabart's Nominee Page

The winners are selected by the ISAF Member National Authorities (MNAs), the national governing bodies for sailing around the world. The MNAs are now invited to vote for the male and female nominee they believe most deserves the Award.

The winners will be announced at the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards presentation and dinner, taking place on Tuesday 12 November 2013. The venue for the event will be at the El Bander Hotel, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

Each winner will be presented with the prestigious ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award Trophy and a distinctive Rolex ISAF World Sailor website
