TV presenter, author and all-round raconteur, Bob Fisher has just made it back from San Francisco following a 3-month assignment covering the amazing America's Cup come-back between Larry Ellison's Oracle Team USA and Emirates Team New Zealand.
What happened to change Oracle's fortunes that gave them the sudden speed to recover from being 8:1 down to win the series 9:8?
What part did Sir Ben Ainslie play in this remarkable turnaround?
Bob has the inside track on the story of this Cup series and an encyclopaedic knowledge on the 33 Cup events that have preceded it, starting with the race around the Isle of Wight back in 1851 that began what has become the oldest international sporting event in the world.
Raised on the foreshore at Brightlingsea where the local watermen wore Guernsey jumpers with the names Shamrock and Endeavour emblazoned across their chests, Bob was born to the America's Cup. It was from these seasoned seamen that he first learned about the Cup.
His own sailing on these East Coast waters led him to international racing around the globe, and a determination to communicate these stories in print, radio and on screen.
Winner of the Fireball and Hornet dinghy world and national championships, the Little America’s Cup, and navigator on record breaking challenges across the Atlantic, there is not much that Bob has not experienced first-hand in the world of yachting.
'A great orator – Bob has an endless fund of stories to tell!'
A hugely engaging speaker, Bob regales his audiences with the dastardly deeds that some have pulled in their efforts to win yachting's 'Holy Grail'. Bob can also speak about racing around the world, and motivates his audiences to push their own boundaries using successful analogies from the sailing world.
Bob has penned the definitive history of the America's Cup, a 2-vol opus titled An Absorbing Interest that has become a world-wide best seller and collector's item for all those with a serious interest in the Cup.
