NYYC Invitational Cup -Corinthian racing at its best

by Nautor's Swan on 19 Sep 2013
Bow # 12, Royal Thames YC, Skipper: John Greenland, Tactician: Ian Dobson, Type: Swan 42, Length: 42.58 ft Rolex/Daniel Forster http://www.regattanews.com
The New York Invitational Cup presented by Rolex and organized by the New York Yacht Club provided the world’s best Corinthian racing for 20 teams from 13 different countries last week. A very unique event on the ClubSwan calendar, this biennial one design regatta in Club Swan 42s is an established favourite among amateurs representing some of the most prestigious yacht clubs in the world.

Designed and built by Nautor’s Swan, in partnership with the New York Yacht Club, the Club Swan 42 is a timeless one-design with a professionally run Class and a strong following in America.

Nautor’s Swan salutes the winning team from the Royal Canadian Yacht Club who were awarded the Invitational Cup trophy and a Rolex timepiece. Larchmont Yacht Club (USA) took second place, with the Royal Thames of Great Britain finishing in third.

Danny Pletsch, helm of the Larchmont YC entry, commented, 'The event was fantastic due to everyone only racing in the one design Club Swan 42s and the competition on the water was even better due to how the Swans sail. The performance nature of this design meant that we could all race hard even in the stronger winds and really enjoy the potential of these race boats off wind. The Club Swan 42s definitely have their own groove and their simplistic technical approach ensures an enjoyable sail, there is never too much to figure out'.

Competitors are looking forward to the next edition of the New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup presented by Rolex which will take place in September 2015.
