Head scratching during race 3 - Americas Cup Colin Preston
At the Aucklands Voyager Museum 200 Auckland spectators were treated to two exciting races under the hull of the legendary NZL32 Black Magic on Monday morning. Screened in the Blue Water Black Magic gallery the concerned looks, head scratching and relatively quiet crowd burst into cheers once Emirates Team NZ overhauled Oracle USA in the first race of the day, going up three wins to -2.
During the break between races some spectators discussed race tactics while others inspected Emirates Team NZ first hydro-foiling daggerboard and their AC72 model used by ETNZ in The University of Aucklands twisted wind tunnel facility. This was followed by another subdued crowd as Emirates Team NZ suffered their first defeat of the 34th Americas Cup, although by only eight seconds.
Organised by the Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development Ltd a repeat event is yet to be decided on.
