AAM Cowes Week - Supporting great causes

by Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week on 10 Jul 2013 Organisers of Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, Cowes Week Limited, has had the pleasure of working with Toe in the Water as the official charity of the event for the last three years. Toe in the Water is a tri-service initiative which uses competitive sailing to re-inspire injured service personnel to see beyond their injuries, and perform to their limits regardless of their physical condition. Over the last three years, the charity has successfully campaigned a number of racing boats and held a series of popular events ashore. These activities have helped build the profile of the charity, raised some much-needed funds, and enabled Toe in the Water to take even more injured servicemen and women sailing.

Commenting on the charity’s tenure as official charity, Tanya Brookfield, Co-founder, said: 'Toe in the Water is hugely proud to be competing again at Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week this year and are sad that this will be our third and final year as the official charity partner of the regatta. The support we receive from the sailing community has been pivotal to our success in re-inspiring so many wounded and profoundly injured servicemen and women and we couldn’t have done it without them.'

This year Toe in the Water has some exciting plans in place for its final year as official charity and allcomers to the event are encouraged to provide support by buying a ticket to the Toe in the Water crew party which will be held at Cowes Yacht Haven on Saturday 3rd August. Tickets are available now via Toe in the Water or from Cowes Yacht Haven and cost just £5 – all proceeds will go directly to the charity.

Cowes Week Limited appoints an official charity in order that fundraising activity during the event can be conducted in a focused way. Experience and feedback has shown that having a single charity with clear objectives aligned to the event is the best way of channelling charitable activity at the regatta.

Looking ahead to 2014 and beyond, Cowes Week Limited, supported by Aberdeen Asset Management, will begin the process of appointing an official charity for the next three year period immediately after this year’s event. Any charities that are interested in becoming involved should register their interest with Michelle Warner: michelle.warner(@)aamcowesweek.co.uk. The formal process and next steps will then be shared with all interested parties from the end of August.
