Evolution Sails Two Handed Series - 21 entries drawn

Congested pre-start - 2013 Evolution Sails Two Handed Series Vicki Little
Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th July saw one of the largest fleets for some time to contest Southport Yacht Clubs 2013 Evolution Sails Two Handed Series, with 21 entries comprising Trailables, Sportsboats, Etchells and a Cruising Multihull on the water to enjoy the challenge of sailing shorthanded.

Saturday:
After a one hour postponement a light easterly came in at around 6-8 knots giving PRO Greg Hempstalk enough wind to get two short races away, (if only just), as the wind started to die out as the last boats where crossing the finish line.

Sunday:
With a 15-18 knot South- South Easterly the crews where set for some longer courses and a lot more challenging sailing conditions in comparison to Saturdays winds. There were some thrills and of course some spills with the Sportsboats speeding on downwinds with their spinnakers set and succumbing to the elements as they performed their gybes shorthanded, not an easy feat which was witnessed by the rest of the fleet as the Sportsboat lay on their sides as they tried to regain their composure and get the kite set again.

A huge thank you to Evolution Sails Queensland’s Rob White and Graham Sherring for again supporting this great event.
