ISAF welcomes nominations for ISAF Athletes' Commission Members

by ISAF on 4 Jul 2013
SW
The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) is calling on athletes to nominate candidates to represent their Olympic event on the ISAF Athletes’ Commission.

The ISAF Athletes’ Commission represents the interests of the sailors in the Olympic events and reports directly to the ISAF Executive Committee. The Athletes' Commission is composed of athletes representing Olympic events, and is elected by the athletes themselves.

Following the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes’ Commission model, the term of membership shall be eight years allowing members to learn and be effective over that period of time. Three members from the 2009-2012 Athletes’ Commission have already been elected to remain on the Commission: Ben Barger (USA) Men’s Windsurfer competitor in 2008; Malcolm Page (AUS), Men’s Two Person Dinghy gold medallist 2008 and 2012; and Marcelien de Koning (NED) Women’s Two Person Dinghy silver medallist, 2008 and Women’s Match Racing competitor in 2012.

Three new members, who must be Olympians who competed at the 2008 and/or 2012 Olympic Games, will now be elected with the final two appointed by the ISAF Executive Committee.

ISAF is now inviting athletes to nominate new candidates to represent their Olympic event on the ISAF Athletes' Commission. The final date for candidates to put their name forward is 31 July 2013.

Candidates may be nominated from the 10 sailing events selected for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. To ensure a balanced Athletes Commission there shall not be more than one member from any Olympic sailing Event on the Commission:
