How about your own Humdinga!?

New from the people who brought us the Gibbs Quadski and Aquada is the Gibbs 'Humdinga II', capable on both land and water!

Kiwi entrepreneur Alan Gibbs recently unveiled an SUV/4WD amphibious vehicle concept designed specifically to access remote and hostile terrain. The 5-seater Humdinga II is a 20-foot amphibian that is capable of reaching the most extreme and remote territory, and is a full-time 4WD powered by a 350 BHP V8 engine, capable of 160 kmh on land and on water at 65 kmh.

The Gibbs Humdinga II can comfortably transport five people complete with luggage/supplies almost anywhere on the earth.

Humdinga is a full-time 4WD Amphitruck capable of highway speeds on land and over 30mph on water. With the touch of a button Humdinga II transitions between land and water in seconds. On water Humdinga II utillizes GIBBS Amphibians proprietary HSA twin water jet propulsion technology.

When it enters the water the wheels fold away so as to not interfere with the flow of water underneath, and drive switches to a waterjet, powered by the same V8 engine as used on land.

According to Alan Gibbs, Humdinga II was developed to access remote destinations and has robust marine, highway and off-road performance. 'The Gibbs Humdinga II will enable mankind to go 4x4xfarther!' he says.

On land the Gibbs Humdinga II can accelerate from 0 -100 kph in 9.2 seconds and on water can reach the ‘plane’ in less than 10 seconds.

It has a curb weight of 2000kg, has all wheel independent air suspension and runs on regular unleaded petrol. The vehicle is 5400mm in length, 1850mm in height and 2000mm in width.

In February 2012, Gibbs Technologies unveiled the Phibian, designed as the platform of the future for amphibious transport and rescue. Its developers claim Phibian is the largest High Speed Amphibian (HSA), developed to date. The carbon fibre-constructed 4WD Phibian in passenger mode can comfortably carry 15 people. When reconfigured for cargo it can carry a payload of 3,307 pounds (1,500kg).

'Natural disasters in recent memory, such as the earthquake and tsunamis in Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka and elsewhere in Asia; as well as the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, illustrate the need for amphibians as capable, versatile and efficient as Phibian,' Gibbs Chairman Neil Jenkins said at the launch.

The key to Gibbs' amphibians is the ability to transition seamlessly between land and water. When entering the water, the operator pushes a button preparing the amphibian for water entry. Once the vehicle determines that it has enough water depth to float, it raises the wheels and its ready to go on plane.

Smaller and more nimble than the Phibian, the Humdinga II is intended for use in a light-duty patrol or rapid response role.
