EUROSAF 2K European Club Championship - YCCS to be represented

by Jill Campbell on 21 Jun 2013
SW
A team representing the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) will take part in the second edition of the two keelboat team racing European Club Championship to be held from 21st to 23rd June in Bataviahaven, Lelystad, Holland.

Two keelboat team racing, colloquially known as 2K Team Racing, is a fairly new discipline within team racing, but is attracting increasing attention in a growing number of European countries including Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands. Races are held on windward leeward courses and the Europeans will be sailed aboard Maxfun 25 craft. With a gender rule aimed at 50:50 participation, a great social programme and good breezes forecast, the competitors are anticipating another great 2K regatta.

A total of nine teams will compete in Bataviahaven representing Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and the UK. The British contingent will be one to watch out for, with no less than four teams hailing from the UK.

The Italian team will be led by YCCS members Filippo Maria Faruffini and Filippo Maria Molinari, the same winning combination that recently claimed victory in 2K racing at the Anzio Mare and Vela event held in Italy in May. The remaining team members are Jacopo Pasini, Pietro Fiammenghi, Antonio Sodo, Alessandra Li Puma and Giulia Zappacosta.

2K team racing is a very competitive discipline within sailing with short, sharp and close racing. Teams are made up of six sailors with a maximum of four from any gender. Teams are therefore generally made up of men and women racing together on an equal basis, which is a positive aspect of the sport, as is on-water umpiring which results in instant decisions concerning any infringement of the rules. The opportunity to get close to the racing in Lelystad is excellent, with spectators able to watch all the races from the shore.

The Notice of Race is now published and available online here
