Mcarthy fourth placed in Mini Transat
by Merfyn Owen on 18 Sep 2003
After a week at sea and five hundred miles to go to the first leg finish in the Canaries, Ireland’s Cian Mcarthy, sailing The Tom Crean, is in a creditable fourth place in this highly competitive fleet of single-handers.
Mcarthy has been maintaining a steady position for a number of days and is less than twenty miles behind the leaders France’s Samuel Manuard (Tip Top Too) and Olympic medallist and race favourite, USA’s Sydney 2000 49er Olympic medal winner, Jonathan McKee (Team McLube).
The other mini'ist with an Owen Clarke boat, Ian Munslow (Ishtar) is in the next pack and steadily moving up the seventy strong fleet, presently in twenty first place.
Mike Golding's new Open 60 Ecover has finally reached the UK and at the Southampton International Boat Show, Mike announced that Brian Thompson would be his co-skipper in the upcoming Transat Jacques Vabres race this winter.
The first sailing pictures of the latest swing keel open sixty are now available and can be seen on the Owen Clarke site.
