2013 Superyacht Awards-...and the sailing yachts were...

2013 Superyacht Awards at the Ciragan Palace Kempinski Hotel in Istanbul SW
This month in Istanbul, among a heady collection of outrageously luxurious yachts and extraordinary designs, several sailing yachts received awards in the 2013 Superyacht Awards. The event was a glamorous event in true superyacht style, held at the Ciragan Palace Hotel Kempinski.

It was significant that Dykstra Naval Architects won no less than four of the awards.

Best sailing yacht of the year:
Dykstra Naval Architects has won ‘Sailing Yacht of the Year’ and ‘Best Sailing yacht in the 30m – 39m size range’ for the 37,3 m classic sailing yacht 'Pumula', Naval architecture and exterior styling by Dykstra Naval Architects, Interior by Rhoades Young design and built by Royal Huisman.


Judges' Commendation:
Hoek Design Naval Architects won the Judges' Commendation award for Simba, Length: 32.89m, built by Proteksan-Turquoise Yachts. The exterior and interior styling were also done by Hoek


Special Award for Catamarans:
Warwick Yacht Design won the special award for catamarans with their 30.49m Quintessential. She was built by Yachting Developments. The exterior styling was also by Warwick and the interior designer was Redman Whiteley Dixon


Special Award for Performance:
Judel/Vrolijk under Wally Cento design box rule won the special award for performance with Hamilton at 30.38m. The builder was Green Marine, the exterior stylist Design Unlimited & Monk Design, and the interior designer Design Unlimited


Best sailing yacht in the 39m+ range:
J Class superyacht 'Rainbow' won the ‘Best Sailing yacht in the 39m+ range’, Naval Architecture and exterior styling by Dykstra Naval Architects, Interior by deVosdeVries design/Dykstra Naval Architects and built by Holland Jachtbouw.


Best Refitted sailing yacht:
The Award for Best refitted Sailing yacht went to J Class charter yacht 'Endeavour', Naval Architecture on the refit by Dykstra Naval Architects, exterior styling by Jon Barrett Associates and interior design by John Munford/Adam Lay Studio.


The Legacy Award:
Tom Perkins received the Legacy Award for his achievements, one of them was building charter yacht 'Maltese Falcon', with naval architecture again by Dykstra Naval Architects.

Erica Lush Completes Bermuda 1-2 Regatta First Leg
While training for the Solitaire Du Figaro Rhode Island sailor Erica Lush completed the first leg of the Bermuda 1-2 regatta as the only woman skipper in the fleet. Lush sailed solo from Newport to Bermuda, handling a boat new to her, and rough sea state.

Susan Widmann Sinclair Women's Championship
Winning this year's event was a very accomplished skipper, Carmen Cowles and her team The biennial running of Noroton Yacht Club's Susan Widmann Sinclair Women's Championship, presented by Fairfield County Bank, just finished a second wild and wooly event, thanks again to Mother Nature.
