More than 40 young optimist sailors are set to converge on the Gold Coast this Autumn with the staging of the 2013 Queensland Optimist State Championships.
The event is expected to be one of the largest state championships ever run, with the perfect Gold Coast location and the increased level of competition, attracting sailors and their families from as far as North Queensland.
The action of the State Championships is set to take place between Saturday fourth and Sunday 5th May at Southport Yacht Club’s Hollywell Sailing Squadron.
Friday 3rd May the Sailing Squadron will see the Australian Optimist Team training for the World Championships held later in the year. An unofficial invitation race is also being conducted from the shores at Hollywell later in the day.
The Gold Coast Broadwater will be a unique setting for the sailors. Children as young as six years old will be battling the elements in a sporting event to become the best of the best in Queensland.
Southport Yacht Club’s Hollywell Sailing Squadron will be transformed for a weekend of family fun on water and on shore, we welcome all members of the public to join the sailors in celebrating this great event.
