ISAF Sailing World Cup - Isabella Bertold says 'That's a wrap!'

by Isabella Bertold on 30 Apr 2013
Palma 2013 - ISAF Sailing World Cup 2013 Alberto sanchez
The 2013 ISAF World Cup Circuit concluded the other day and with my sixth place finish in Hyeres I added another single digit world cup finish to my results sheet! This was by far the hardest event for me, both mentally and physically. I was approaching the event as a pure training event, meaning I was going to be trying new things in training and racing some of which worked and some of which didn’t, and let me tell you, when you are trying to work on something and then it temporarily slows you down it’s very frustrating! Nevertheless this was a very positive event for me in many ways, and I am really pleased with how much my hard work over the off season has paid off.

I am going to spare everyone the full recap of the racing this time, and to be honest, it’s because the event is all a bit of a big blur for me. (I blame the overdose on cheese and chocolate that happened in France!) I am fairly exhausted but am still very much so looking forward to heading down to Lake Garda tomorrow (I’m currently recovering at my grandparents place in Munich). Everyone has told me how amazing the biking and hiking is and for the next few days I plan on doing exactly that! I’ve got about 8 days until the next regatta starts, a EuroCup event, and I want to make sure that I am ready to go once the racing starts. The EuroCup events use a different race format than the World Cup events, and it will be a new experience for me. The races are much shorter, you do more of them in a day, and for me the emphasis will be on starting practice.

That’s all from me for now! Fingers crossed I have internet in Garda, and if I do, I promise to update everyone before racing gets going on May 8th!

Big thank you to West Coast Sailing, Bonk Breaker Energy Bars, Zhik, Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, BC Sailing, SOLE, KT Tape, and the International Sailing Academy for your continued support of my campaign. The road to Rio wouldn’t be nearly this much fun without you guys!
