The Atlantic Cup announces VX One Class to race

The third annual 2013 Atlantic Cup presented by 11th Hour Racing, gets underway in less than a month. Manuka Sports Event Management is pleased to announce three new race partners, Block Island Organics, Jamestown FiSH and McMurdo. In addition the VX One class will race as a promotional class in the the Newport Inshore Series.

In addition to the Class 40 inshore races that will take place on May 25th and 26th, the 2013 inshore series in Newport will also feature The VX ONE Race Series at the Atlantic Cup. The VX ONE is an affordable sport one-design for the two to three person-racing enthusiast. Their expected fleet of 10 boats in their Race Series at the Atlantic Cup will provide for added spectator enjoyment just off Fort Adams in Newport, RI.

VX One Newport Fleet Captain, Tim Pitts stated, 'We’re extremely excited to be participating in the Inshore Series at the Atlantic Cup and we look forward to demonstrating how the VX One is a practical boat that makes it fun to just go sailing. Everyone who ever sailed has realized there balancing act on going fast and being in control. The VX One has nailed that ratio, you can be in control at 20knts+, and go this speed with a crew of just 2-3 people.'

The New York to Newport finish and the finish line for all inshore racing in Newport will be dubbed the 'Jamestown FiSH Finish.' Jamestown FiSH is an award winning Rhode Island restaurant on Narragansett Bay featuring locally harvested seafood and produce paired with selected wines from some of the world’s finest vineyards. In addition to sponsoring the finish line in Newport, FiSH will host the teams for a skipper’s party before racing gets underway in Newport.

McMurdo has signed on as the official Safety and Rescue Products Partner for the 2013 Atlantic Cup. The crews aboard the participating Class 40 boats will be provided with McMurdo Fast Find 220 Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) to assure their safety on each of the three legs of the 2013 race. The McMurdo Fast Find 220 is a powerful distress beacon providing a direct method of alerting search and rescue authorities where no other forms of communication are available, using the 406 MHz search and rescue satellite communication system, COSPAS SARSAT. Also transmits a 121.5MHz homing signal.
