U.S Multihull Championship 2913. US Sailing has announced that the upcoming race for the Hobie Alter Trophy will be sailed on Hobie 16s and hosted by the Sausalito Yacht Club in Sausalito, Calif. on September 3-8. San Francisco Bay will be bustling with enthusiasm for multihull sailing this September as some of the top sailors in the world will be competing in the area.
This year’s U.S. Multihull Championship coincides with the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup racing series in San Francisco (Sept. 1-4) on the AC45 catamarans, as well as the beginning of the America’s Cup final series sailed on AC72 catamarans, beginning September 7.
Sailors indicated in a 2012 survey conducted by US Sailing that the championship would be better served to encompass more sailors and be rotated to sailing venues throughout the U.S.
On an annual basis, the championship will now be alternated through three disciplines of boats – doublehanded, singlehanded and spinnaker, reflecting the three principle genres of multihull sailing in the U.S.
The 2013 U.S. Multihull Championship will be sailed on the Hobie 16, a doublehanded boat and one of the largest multihull classes. The 2014 event will be sailed on a singlehanded boat and 2015 will be sailed on with a spinnaker.
The U.S. Multihull Championship is a ‘bring your own boat’ (BYOB) event with no area qualifiers or invitations. The event is open to all interested sailors and there are no citizenship requirements.
Multihull sailors are encouraged to join us in San Francisco for a spectacular week of sailing. Register today to compete in this US Sailing Championship event at
