Model of record-setting Illusion on show in Hainan

by Jeni Bone on 31 Mar 2013
Illusion 2 SW
The 88-metre Illusion – the biggest-volume superyacht ever constructed in China – is well under way at the Raffles yard in Yantai, Shandong province, and is being offered for sale through Fraser Yachts.

According to insiders, Illusion has recently been moved across the yard by barge, building is progressing well and she is scheduled for a mid-2015 launch.

Fraser Yachts is showing a model of Illusion at the Hainan Rendez?Vous, March 30 to April 2 in Sanya, China.

British company Rainsford Mann Design (RMD) is responsible for her interior and exterior, with styling inspired by the unique, timeless and classic styling cues of the Rolls Royce marque, evident on her stem bow and the flowing sheer line.

The interior by Sinot Yacht Design looks from the renderings to be an intriguing mix of Asian references and contemporary design – not many superyachts can boast terracotta-warrior-style figures in the main deck entrance area.

Naval architecture is by Azure Naval, while the exterior styling came from the company formerly known as RSD. Rolls-Royce diesel-electric engines will give the yacht a top speed of 17 knots.

She is equipped with Diesel Electric Propulsion by Rolls Royce which has Azimuth Thrusters capable of cruising at a full speed 17.5 knots. It is also capable of covering over 7,000 nautical miles with the additional benefits of having an advanced Dynamic Positioning System enabling the Yacht to stay unanchored in its programmed position. The Illusion Series also has a Touch & Go helipad with 2x tenders.

The art deco modern styled interior is eye catching yet simplistic and has a spacious deck space which can accommodate up to 12 guests in a lavish setting assisted by up to 26 professional crew.
