America's Cup contenders compete in Fremantle

The waters of Fremantle will once again welcome America's Cup Yachtsmen
Three America's Cup teams will be represented at the Fremantle Open Match Race 2000. This International Grade 2 event is organised
by Fremantle Sailing Club in December 2000.
Chris Dickson (USA), one of the most internationally famous sailing personalities will be representing the powerful Oracle America's
Cup Racing Syndicate.
Prada Challenge, runner up of the America's Cup 2000 in Auckland will be skippered by Gavin Brady (ITA).
Murray Jones (CH), who was part of the winning team in both the 1995 and 2000 Team New Zealand victories, now part of the Swiss
America's Cup Challenge, will make up the third America's Cup team in this International Match Racing competition.
The event which will be sailed on the Club fleet of J24's is part of an on-going sailing program to put the Fremantle Sailing Club back onto
the international circuit and further develop sailing in Western Australia.
'Historically Fremantle and the America's Cup are eternally linked and Fremantle is renowned throughout the World as a key sailing
venue' said Rear Commodore Geoff Bishop.
Ten teams will compete in the event including Luca Antonini (ITA), Xavier Destremau (DEN) and local Yachtsmen Simon Sutherland,
Sebastien Destremau and young Ben Dunstan over three days from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 December (9am to 5pm). The public is
welcome and the best viewing spot is at South Beach - Fremantle
