Melbourne-Osaka Cup 2013 - Cadibarra and Optimus Prime Sally Williams
Melbourne-Osaka Cup 2013. A fleet of seven boats departed for Osaka on Sunday morning at 1030hrs. Cadibarra 8, Funnelweb, Kiss Goodbye to MS, Optimus Prime, Samurai Jack, Spirit of Downunder and Wasabi had the wind on the nose as they tacked out through the Port Phillip Heads.
Once around the corner they had a great run to Wilson’s Promontory with strong westerlies behind them. Wasabi, Funnelweb and Optimus Prime reported excellent running conditions under spinnaker albeit some were caught out by a 40knot rain squall and some sail repair work is on the list!
While the new starters have been surfing toward the Prom, Escapade, Southern Cross and Turbulence have all made slow progress in the last 24 hours as winds eased and moved to the north.
Escapade is out in front and west of Lord Howe Island. Turbulence is 200nm east of Sydney and Southern Cross is only a couple of miles off the coast at Botany Bay.
The final start at 0400hrs on Thursday 28th March will see Gusto, the largest boat in the fleet join the
