Lexus Lincoln - Scarlet Runner sneaks past Secret Men's Business

'Scarlet Runner' before the start of a race - 2013 Lexus Lincoln Regatta Janine Kemp
The Lexus Lincoln Regatta 2013 came to a close finish as Victorian Boat Scarlet Runner collected enough points to sneak past South Australian boat Secret Men's Business for the top honour at Port Lincoln. Scarlet Runner failed to win its fourth Adelaide to Port Lincoln Yacht Race but finished the week strong to win the main regatta.

A total of 40 boats of all shapes and sizes and hundreds of sailors ventured to Port Lincoln over the last week for the regatta and the competition was consistently fierce.

The Lincoln Regatta is the week long series of racing that follows the Adelaide to Port Lincoln Yacht Race, and this year there was a great turnout of boats from both racing and cruising divisions.

IRC Divison 1, the highest rated category in the regatta was fought for primarily between two 50+ footers, Victoria’s Scarlet Runner skippered by Robert Date and South Australia’s Secret Men’s Business skippered by Geoff Boettcher.

Date and his crew after falling short to Boettcher in the Adelaide to Port Lincoln Yacht Race by two and a half hours bounced back during the week to take out the honours.

Although Scarlet Runner skipper Date was not able to win his fourth Adelaide to Port Lincoln race in a row last weekend, he had the last laugh and said that it was still 'a good way to finish the week'.

Both Scarlet Runner and Secret Men’s Business, the two marquee boats in the regatta unfortunately will not be returning in 2014.

The Scarlet Runner team will be heading to South Africa to compete in the Cape Town to Rio race while the Secret Men’s Business crew will be heading to the United Kingdom to compete in the famous Fastnet Race.

The Lexus Lincoln Regatta, which is one of the most popular races on the Australian circuit definitely lived up to expectations this year with all sailors satisfied with the racing and the The Lexus Lincoln Regatta website
