The Governor’s Cup - the oldest junior match racing championship - will take place at Balboa Yacht Club July 16-21, 2013. The event has many alumni who have gone on to be victorious in sailing competitions throughout the world, including the America's Cup and the World Match Race Tour.

The Governor's Cup committee is currently soliciting entries from both the United States and abroad for the 47th year of the event. Past participant teams have come from Australia, New Zealand, England, Brazil, Finland, Spain, Sweden, Ireland and Bermuda.

The boats to be used are identical purpose built Governors Cup 21’s provided by the Newport Balboa Sailing and Seamanship Association. This boat was designed by renowned yacht designer and BYC member, Alan Andrews.

Teams must consist of a skipper and two crews. No competitor may have reached his or her twenty first birthday before the first day of the regatta on July 16, 2013. Balboa Yacht Club’s selection committee will select final invitees from among clubs submitting a complete Request for Invitation package by Friday May 24, 2013. More details are available in the application materials.

Among the highlights of the event will be the opening dinner, big boat 'Beer Can' racing, and the Gala Trophy Reception. It is the committee’s ambition to make this the most enjoyable event that the competitors have ever experienced.

For more information or to request an Invitation Package, please call 949-673-3515 or via email sailing@balboayachtclub.com. The package is also available for download on the Club’s website at Balboa Yacht Club.
