Rumble in the Reach Regatta - Open to the Public!

Sports boats and Open BICs in action Back to the finish Rick Steaurt
The East Fremantle Yacht Club is very excited to be part of the growing Sports Boat and O’Pen BIC communities in Western Australia. We share their mantra that 'life is too short to sail slow boats'! As such in 2011 EFYC launched the Rumble in the Reach, an event which showcased these two classes to spectators and the broader public.
With racing in close confines and in easy view from our Club balcony; spectators can share in the excitement that comes with sailing in these classes.

A wind of change is what the O'Pen BIC has brought to the world of dinghy sailing for kids. Young sailors now have a true glide machine for real excitement on the water. The O'Pen BIC, with its modern and powerful rig, is not only a fun boat for pure enjoyment on the water, it is also a fast boat which is quick to respond. The O'Pen BIC is the link between the Optimist generation and the new generation of sailing dinghies.

With the growth of the Sports Boat Fleet in WA comes the opportunity to experience the adrenalin rush created by the sheer acceleration and planning abilities of these boats. This class is simple to rig, transport and sail, its open transom bails water instantly even in extreme conditions - making it the perfect choice for those with a hectic lifestyle.

On Saturday 12 January 2013, East Fremantle Yacht Club will showcase this season’s Rumble in the Reach and open its doors to the General Public so they can enjoy all the thrills and spills of this close quarter racing on the river. Live race commentary will be provided throughout the afternoon by well known WA sailing identities.

The morning kicks off with the 2013 O’Pen BIC Challenge at 10:00am. The schedule will comprise of two qualifying races followed by a final race. Come and see some of the States upcoming Junior Sailors battle it out in this fast paced race.

The action packed afternoon will commence with the first of two Sports Boats heats at 2:00pm. The top finishers in each heat will battle in the final to be crowned the '2013 Sports Boat Challenge Champion'. Following racing sailors are invited back to the Clubhouse for the Presentation and some celebratory food and drinks.

The General Public are welcome to come and view the racing from our balcony and grounds from 10:00am.
We will also have Live entertainment provided by the popular Jazz & Blues duo 'Honey Suckle Rose' from 5.30pm to 9.30pm.

We will also have fresh oyster shucking station and Wine tasting by Silkwood Wines from 2pm to 5pm.
