Hobart 2013 Rendezvous Cruise - still time to join

by David Champtaloup/Sail-World Cruising on 19 Dec 2012
Sailing to Tasmania in the summer - what could be better? SW
There's nothing more idyllic than cruising Tasmania in full summer, and that what the members of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia (CYCA) are offering all boats interested in participating in the Hobart 2013 Rendezvous Cruise starting in January.

The arrangements are just being finalised for the third cruise. Such was the popularity of the previous two cruises that, without much promotion, 13 vessels are already currently confirmed as participants in the Cruise with Denis Doyle and Lynne Smith’s Xc 42 Sextant serving as the lead boat.

The idea of 'Rendezvous' cruising is that a meeting point is arranged at certain destinations along the way, but each skipper is free to choose their departure time based on personal convenience and the weather. That doesn't mean that boats won't end up travelling together by choice. Most will leave Port Jackson in the first 2 weeks of January and all of the participants are expected to arrive in Hobart no later than 7th February 2013.

Rendezvous Points include Twofold Bay, Triabunna and Maria Island with Sextant planning to add stopovers in Deal Island and Flinders Island. Participating boats will take responsibility for their own boat preparation and cruising plans and may elect to opt in or out of the Rendezvous Points.

The communications hub for the Cruise will be internet based using a dedicated page on the Skipr.net site. Daily area specific weather forecasts from Roger 'Clouds' Badham will be provided to all participants.

Hobart 2013 is timed to allow participating boats to arrive in Hobart in advance of the Wooden Boat Festival, 8 to 11 February 2013, and the Van Diemen’s Land Circumnavigation which commences 13 February 2013.
