The young Quebec sailor in the Optimist class, Justin Vittecoq had a spectacular performance at the 2012 North American Optimist Championships winning the bronze medal. This accomplishment is the best result by a Canadian athlete during an international Optimist event.
Fourth in the final overall rankings, Justin finished third amongst North American competitors and was awarded the bronze medal.
At only 12 years old, Justin Vittecoq’s progress has been remarkable; in the previous North American Championships, he has finished 145th in 2010 and 95th in 2011. These results are more remarkable considering that the Optimist class is for ages 15 and younger.
This is not the only event that Justin has placed well in this year. These results earned him the 2012 Youth Sailor of the Year awarded by the Fédération de voile du Québec.
