All systems go at Port Dalrymple YC

Port Dalrymple Yacht Club was a hive of action where junior sailors congregated for a weekend of training and racing at Beauty Point. Sailors were joined by a specialised Interstate coach and local coaches from the club. Training Friday night and Saturday morning were followed by some closely contested racing in near perfect conditions.

After six races, Southern Sailor Sam King with a consistent performance won the regatta followed by Northern Sailors Jaxon Stickler and Josh Harriss (pictured). This weekend at PDYC will see club sailors continue their training in preparation for the National championships in Brighton Victoria late December.

Last Saturday saw the opening race of the Project and Maintenance Engineering offshore series. The race Division 1 and 2 races were held in near perfect conditions for an out and return to a turn point off Port Sorell, with all yachts making short work of the near 30 nautical mile course in just over five hours.

In a close finish Andrew Jones’s AdvantEdge beat Dave Allan’s Obsession by less than one minute on corrected time, with Allusive sailed by John Joyce 50 seconds back in third. Pete Haworth in Pouge Mahone was never challenged, easily taking Division 2 honors.


The PDYC is all systems go for these years Classic on Saturday 27th of October. The almost legendary race will encompass sailing legs from Rosevears Waterside Tavern to Beauty Point, a 13km run, and a challenging 50km cycling road race.

'Boats are jostling for athletes and athletes for boats' says Vice Commodore Sam Edmunds, 'there will some great local runners, yachtsmen and cyclists on the river this year' The Classic is bound to be fun with local prize sponsorship growing with the event.

This Sunday sees the first two races of the Shaw Contracting points series for division 1 and 2 boats. The series is expected to be hotly contested in both divisions, with a number of new boats entering.

PDYC offers sail training with accredited instructors on most Sunday mornings.
