Launched at the Monaco Yacht Show in September, the new Palmer Johnson Super Sport range in 42, 48, 72ft models has been heralded by its maker as 'the most desirable superyacht in the world'.
Palmer Johnson director Mike Kelsey Jr said at its unveiling at MYS that the new range was 'a labour of love of many years'.
'These yachts have been in development for years. It is not something that we decided to update six months ago,' he explained. 'We redesigned the yachts from the ground-up, with a group of experts working night and day to develop a new product that is truly revolutionary.'
The carbon fibre SuperSport series, incorporating a new hull shape, interior design and a sleek and 'predatory' superstructure without a single flat surface, is available in 42m, 48m and 72m models.
Kelsey Jnr described the range as 'completely different from past models both above and below the waterline'.
'We have taken away the stabilisers and reduced the engine size. These sorts of modifications don’t happen overnight. When you first see the series, you will recognise it as a Palmer Johnson, but when you look closer, it is nothing like the sportyacht line. That effect is hard to create.'
In Monaco, the Palmer Johnson 42m SuperSport, the Palmer Johnson 48m SuperSport, and the Palmer Johnson 72m SuperSport models were presented.
According to its creators, the sleek and stunning carbon fibre body was designed with not a single flat surface. 'The next generation shape was achieved by relentlessly considering every detail – so that all the elements play together, including those not seen.'
The vessels have an innovative wavepiercer displacement hull making them three times more stable than a monohull. The slender main hull increases efficiency with sponsons that have a positive effect on stability, roll dampening, speed and power. The wave piercing bow reduces pitching and will be more comfortable with no slamming as yacht goes through waves and not over them. The yachts will be able to cruise at 30+ Knots with 50% less fuel and will have a Transatlantic range.
The superyachts have a sculpted waistline and aggressive flair in the fore section, muscular haunches, a predatory stance and a sleek profile. The clean design hides yacht handling gear, keeping the decks clear for guests and potential charterers.
The interior space is also impressive with full length windows with open bulwarks in the Salon and Skylounge, enabling an incredible amount of light to permeate the interior, bringing the outside environment it. The Aft decks were also designed for indoor/outdoor living with sensational views through the haunches. On the lower level is a spacious beach club.
The first hull of the Palmer Johnson 48 SuperSport series has been sold and is currently under construction to be delivered in 2013. The yacht boasts all of the features of the new SuperSport line with a top speed of 32 Knots, impressive efficiency at lower speeds and capable of crossing the Atlantic at a speed of 15 Knots.
The Palmer Johnson 48 SuperSport series motor yacht has an 11 meter beam and a full beam Master cabin located on the main deck. The yacht will weigh 490 GT and will perform at a top Speed 32Knots consuming less than 1000 L/h. The yacht will also carry a 7m tender onboard.
