The Stack Winter Champs is returning to Murrays Bay Yacht Club and entries are now being accepted both for racing on 5, 6 and 7 October, and for two days of intensive coaching next Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 October.

Youth sailors from all clubs are invited. With over 200 boats and 300 sailors, the Stack Winter Champs are now considered to be the main warm up regatta for the highly competitive summer season. The event features three days of racing for junior and youth classes, and two days of racing for senior classes. A big feature of the regatta is two days of intensive coaching, on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 October.

The coaching, run by Andrew Brown of Force Racing, is designed to give young sailors extra tutelage from high performance sailors, and a flying start to the race season. 17 fleets are expected, ranging from the traditional junior classes Optimists, Starlings and P-classes, up to Lasers, RSX and Techno Boards, and 29er and 49er skiffs. The racecourse is the water between Murrays Bay and Rangitoto.

'The club is busy preparing for next week's regatta and we welcome all who want to attend,' says Commodore David Gunn, who also invites prospective members and spectators to come down to the club and find out what it is all about.

What do business interiors and youth sailing have in common?

Stack Business Interiors, which specialises in the design and management of office space and business interiors, has supported the Stack Winter Champs for three years. As Director of Stack Business Interiors, and newly elected Commodore of Murrays Bay Sailing Club, David Gunn is currently head of both, and he has been involved with the club since his now 13 year old boy began sailing at the age of eight.

'As a company we really felt the event was a great opportunity for young sailors, and we wanted to support the sport because it has great benefits for young people in terms of the life skills it builds and develops,' he says.

Stack's design work has won a number of awards over the years, and its portfolio includes office design and construction management for HSBC, AMP Capital, THL, MacDow, Les Mills International, Mercedes-benz, The Warehouse and many more of New Zealand's leading organisations.
