China and Turkey pick up slack in marina building

While the traditional sailing world is still recovering from the global financial crisis, China has announced the building of yet another sizable marina and Turkey has announced that two long-planned marinas are to be built in the heart of Istanbul, encouraging cruising sailors to visit the ancient city.

Yet another marina for China:
Superior China is in the final phase of completion for a new 70-berth marina in Nanchang City, China. The marina has been built as part of a private property development for the BOTAI Real Estate Investment Company
The marina will serve the in-house yacht club, residents of the complex and provide private berthing.
Superior China director Peter Xu said this was the first marina in the Jiangxi Province.

Superior China, regional joint venture partner with Australia's Superior Jetties, is building a strong regional presence for the international floatation specialist. With a big display at the 2012 Shanghai International Boat Show, a China-based manufacturing facility and the completion of this 70-berth marina, Superior is gaining a strong foothold in the area.
Superior CEO John Hogan said it was further demonstration of growth in China, as well as the broader Asia region.

First two of ten marinas to go ahead in Istanbul:
ISPARK, one of the companies owned by the Istanbul city municipality, is long-range planning the construction of 10 floating docks in Istanbul waters, five on the city's Asian side and five on the European side. When they're finished, the marinas will have a total capacity of 5,500 vessels.

In the first phase marinas for larger boats will be constructed near Tarabya and Istinye. The plans for the floating docks will include additional areas like meeting rooms, restaurants and helicopter pads. The docks are part of a plan to eliminate the current marine chaos on the Bosphorus and make way for visiting boats.

The Istinye dock is planned to have a 338-vessel capacity, and the Tarabya one 222. Studies on the feasibility of the other docks are ongoing. A spokesman said the construction of the floating marinas will utilize environmentally friendly techniques and technologies.

The other floating marinas to be built by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality will be based in; Sariyer, Büyükdere, Beykoz, Keçilik, Kanlica, Çubuklu, Göksu, Besiktas, Bebek and Arnavutköy.
