Save your keys with one-use-only Key Buoy

by Lee Mylchreest on 8 Sep 2012
Key Buoy - compact before inflation SW

If you are anything like me this product might be worth its weight in the proverbial gold.

Now, you can go sailing without the fear of dropped keys in the ocean, between dinghy and yacht or off the marina.

The compact Key Buoy inflates automatically as soon as it hits the water to prevent keys from sinking.

The problem with previous floating key rings was their bulky size, and this ingeniously solves that problem.

Once the Key Buoy is activated by immersion, the plastic key fob opens and deploys a buoyant air-filled tube.

The Key Buoy inflates to 36cm and extends above the water, making key retrieval as simple as grabbing the bright orange tube. It can rise to the surface in as little as 60 seconds, and remain inflated for over an hour.

The Key Buoy measures 61mm H x 41mm W x 15mm D and weighs just 31g. It's suitable for items weighing up to 80g, including key sets, deck plate keys and small tools. All of its plastic parts are recyclable.

The Key Buoy, which has been patented by Davis Instruments is a winner of the U.S. National Marine Manufacturers Association's Innovation Award.

You need to remember, though, that The Key Buoy is a one-use-only product, so you need to keep a spare handy.

What a great present for that key-fumbling sailor in your family!
