Dennison 2nd Bethwaite 5th at Scandinavian Race Week

Australia’s Melanie Dennison and her crew Fiona Herbert and Caroline Aders have finished 2nd at the Scandinavian Race Week for Olympic classes.

Held in Rungsted, Denmark, the Danish Olympic Spring Regatta racing took place over four days in the Laser, Europe, Finn, Yngling and 49er classes.

Conditions were mixed, ranging from light winds in drizzle to sunny with very strong winds. The final day dawned bright with ideal conditions allowing organisers to make up for earlier postponed races that left competitors on the water for a full day.

Denison, from Melbourne, and her crew, performed well in the fourteen-strong fleet which boasted some of the best international talent in the Yngling class, to finish in 2nd place, beating her rival for the Australian Olympic spot, Nicky Bethwaite and her crew of Kristen Kosmala and Kate McHugh by six points, and so the battle continues.

However the star of the show was the USA team lead by Hannah Swett, who finished the series with eight points on the low point score system, a clear ten points ahead of Dennison.

Top three after 6 races with one drop:

1. Hannah Swett/J Touchette/M Purdy, USA

2. Melanie Dennison/F Herbert/C Aders, AUS

3. Dorte Jensen/H Jespersen/R Kiel, DEN
