With a multispeed Australian economy and a high dollar, the FNQ tourism industry is doing it tough.
From Gladstone to Townsville, lots of locals who have been involved in the struggling tourism industry are now working mine-side.
Now the FNQ northern winter regattas are of major significance and the events are attracting much more local media attention.
In 15 years we have never seen the Abel Point Marina so full, the numbers of sailors spending time at the Whitsunday Sailing Club is at an all time high and the local community support for Telcoinabox Airlie Beach Race Week 2012 is as never before.
Perfect weather, breeze and sunshine, why would you be anywhere else?
As I key this, there is a golden glow to the east and the black sticks in the marina are perfectly still. We will post the morning weather shortly for another day in a winter paradise.
We will continue to report in detail from all these events, as we've done for many years.
We are looking forward to a similarly glorious weather for Audi Hamilton Island Race Week www.hamiltonislandraceweek.com.au and SeaLink Magnetic Island Race Week www.magneticislandraceweek.com.au
