As part of her preparation to the November 10 start of the 2012-2013 Vendée Globe, Jean-pierre Dick's yacht Virbac Paprec 3 was taken into drydock on Friday and should remain there for a month.
The boat will undergo a thorough servicing and will be put in Vendée Globe configuration at the Virbac-Paprec Sailing Team headquarters, located in Lorient, Brittany.
'We're going to check the hull geometry, as well as the keel, the centreboards and the rudders. The mast structure will also be checked with specific measuring tools', explains composites manager Julien Penven. The goal is to make sure the boat is as reliable and efficient as she can be for the upcoming Vendée Globe. Which is not necessarily that easy, according to Julien Penven: 'Sailing is and remains a power sport and there's no such thing as zero risk. That's why the in-board settings will also feature emergency systems'.
In case of a technical problem at sea, Jean-Pierre Dick will be able to rely on alternate solutions, such as a water-maker or solar panels. Once the work on the boat is completed, she will be back in the water and all ready for the start of the race.
