The Volvo 70 Giacomo, formerly Volvo Ocean Race winner, Groupama has broken the ANZ Sail Fiji race record setting a new monohull record time, beating that of the Bakewell-White supermaxi, Zana.

Giacomo made its way through the reef and crossed the finish line at 09:53:19 on Tuesday 7th June 2016. The elapsed time for the 1,150 NM Auckland to Denarau race was 2 days 22 hours 53 minutes 19 seconds. The ORMA60 TeamVodafoneSailing also set a new multihull record for the course, in the near ideal conditions.

Conditions were mostly strong easterlies with the trade winds pressurised by the east bound front giving Giacomo an 85/95 degree TWA.

Together with a two metre on the beam ocean swell Giacomo achieved sustained periods of reaching with speeds of up to 30kts, conditions ideal for this off the wind VO70.

The crew deserve congratulations for their teamwork and very physical effort under sustained pressure and wet conditions.

Skipper: Jim Delegat
Watch Captains: Steve Cotton, Craig Satterthwaite
Navigator: Tom Addis
Crew: David Miller, Ian Darby, James Delegat, Jonathan Clough, Mitchell White, Richard Bearda, Richard Bicknall
