Whilst Australian's were visiting their local polling booth last Saturday to elect a new government it was business as usual as the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show. Despite the unseasonal weather which affected the number of visitors, the show was a success.
The 33rd annual Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) cruised into another year, contributing to climatic sales and an exuberant atmosphere. Across four action-packed days, SCIBS welcomed 43,852 boating enthusiasts to the sold-out show to view more than 1,000 products and 600 vessels from over 337 exhibitors with an impressive 251 boats on water, a 20 per cent year-on-year increase.
SCIBS rolled out the red carpet with a showstopping line-up of global and Australian premieres, including launches from local manufacturers Maritimo and Riviera, alongside other luxury superyachts, trailer boats, personal watercraft and the latest marine technology. SCIBS General Manager Johan Hasser said Mulpha's continued investment in Sanctuary Cove, including the recent marina expansion, has allowed the Show to increase its footprint, attracting a record number of exhibitors who reported remarkable sales.
Further news of Boat Shows overseas includes one of the largest. The planning for exhibitor registrations for boot Düsseldorf 2023 is in full swing. And now, in May, the team around Project Director Petros Michelidakis is back in the starting blocks. Interested companies, associations and organizers can register for the upcoming boot from January 21 - 29, 2023 here.
Michelidakis: "The interest in the industry is very high. We have had good discussions with companies from all areas of water sports in recent weeks and are sensing very good demand. The manufacturers lack the direct presentation of their boats and yachts in front of a knowledgeable and interested audience as is usual in Düsseldorf. With the new campaign "my business starts at boot 2023" we present ourselves as a responsible partner of the water sports industry. Because Düsseldorf offers its exhibitors the unique opportunity to present themselves together with other leading international top brands, embedded in a sophisticated supporting program, and thus be part of the world's leading trade fair for water sports."

Just down the coast from the Sanctuary Cove Show, the successful Marinas22 International Conference and Trade Exhibition concluded with the blue carpet rolled out for nearly 300 guests at the Gala Dinner sponsored by Gold Coast Waterways Authority. The evening provided an opportunity for the industry to celebrate the achievements and recognise some of the industry's long-serving members. Andrew Chapman Marina Industries Association (MIA) President commenced proceedings recognising Colin Bransgrove for his service as CEO for 13 years. Having retired at the end of 2020, attempts to celebrate Colin's contributions had been thwarted by the pandemic until now.

The Marinas22 Innovation Showcase introduced five new products which provided new solutions to existing problems, each delivered in a punchy seven-minute presentation where product developers outlined the unique benefits of their creation. Four of the five products were environmental initiatives. The Jellyfishbot presented by Cyril Castello of IADYS is an on-water robot, the size of a small suitcase, which collects floating solid and liquid waste floating on the water surface. The MIA's first Clean-Tech Partner, The Searial Cleaners, demonstrated of the four products in their range of automated coastal waste management products. Collect'Thor is fixed to the edge of a marina or seawall attracting and engulfing waste floating on the water surface. It is totally silent and can collect and store up to 100kg of waste before requiring clearing.

Award ceremonies are an industry feature at this time of the year and 2022 is no exception. The 2022 Australian Marine Industry Awards were held on Wednesday 18th May recognising and awarding the outstanding achievers across the three industry sectors at a Gala Dinner held at Southport Yacht Club. The Awards' commenced with pre-dinner drinks and canapes sponsored by Benetti Yachts on the Club's recently opened Mega yacht berth, followed by a glittering Gala Dinner for a packed Compass Room of 200 guests with presentations honouring the worthy winners across eight highly competitive categories.

The Boat Works won two awards on the night. Against strong competition, The Boat Works was awarded "Superyacht Service Provider of the Year", recognising The Boat Works' exceptional service to the superyacht industry during 2021. Australia's largest and most environmentally-friendly yard, showed the consistent commitment to going the extra mile in the service and support of customers, tenants, contractors and visitors.
People news this week includes the BIAV newly appointed President, Eleni Savva, who last week joined CEO Steve Walker in a meeting with The Hon. Melissa Horne, Minister for Fishing and Boating. Discussions focused on the recent progress the state government had made in many areas for boating, however also looked forward to the 2022 Victorian state election, and how boaters and the industry can look to even higher-level commitments for the next electoral cycle.
