1999 National Championships - Notice of Race

This will be the first ever 1DL National Championships and is certain to be hotly contested. We are expecting in excess of 20 boats which should make it the largest ever 1DL Regatta, and perhaps the biggest R/C Landyacht regatta in the world.

1. Event Details

  • Title - 1999 1DL National Championships
  • Date - 19th December 1999
  • Venue - Car Lanes of Ferry Terminal adjacent to Poole YC
  • Organising Authority - 1DL Class Association
  • Be There by 9:30am
  • 1999 1DL National Championships

    2. Rules

    Racing will be governed by :-

  • The Racing Rules of Sailing
  • The Prototype R/C Landyacht Rules Appendix R
  • The 1DL Class Rules
  • This Notice of Race
  • The Sailing Instructions
  • 3. Classes

    Racing will be held for 1DLs only.

    4. Registration

    Registration should be completed by 10am including payment of entry fees. The Venue will be available for practise from 9am. There will be a briefing at 10am, at the starting area and the the first gun will be at 10:30.

    5. Eligability

    Helms must be members of the 1DL Class Association, though you may join on race day.

    6. Fees

    Entry Fee is £8, Class dues for 99/2000 are £7. Please send a cheque payable to One Design Landyachts, to 80 Dover Street, Southampton, SO14 6GL.

    7. Measurement

    Boats may be chosen at random throughout the event for measurement.

    8. Sailing Instructions

    Sailing Instructions will be available from 9:30am in the starting area.

    9. Scoring

    The Low Point scoring system will apply.

    10. Prizes

    There will be prizes for Top Female Entry, and the winner of Bronze, Silver and Gold Fleets. The winner of the Gold Fleet will be classed 1999 National Champion.

    11. Finding the Venue

    The venue is very easy to find, approach Poole from any direction and follow the regular signs to the Ferry Terminal. We are sailing on the car lanes of the Ferry Terminal which is 50 yards from Poole YC. Poole YC have generously allowed us to use their bar and canteen facilities.

    1DL Spring Cup
    At Brooklands Airfield As we drove up the M3 toward Brooklands for the inaugural 1DL Spring Cup the complete lack of wind was becoming distinctly worrying. It was a beautiful sunny morning but there was no sign of the promised 10 knot westerly. Posted on 21 Mar 1999
    Southampton Pro-Am Tournament
    A number of famous names Tuesday 12th May saw the inaugural Pro-Am Landyachting tournament, held at West Quay Retail Park in Southampton. A number of famous names from the sport of sailing turned up to have a go at this new and exciting sport. Posted on 14 May 1998
