Visiting Vessels Submission

The BIA is calling upon the Department of Home Affairs to adjust visa rules for international private cruising vessels.

Recent changes to Subclass 600 Visitor Visas, imposing three-month stay limits and "No Further Stay" conditions, threaten regional tourism, marine trade productivity, and boater safety. BIA notes that visiting vessels require a six-to-eight-month stay to safely navigate South Pacific cyclone seasons and undertake vital refit work.

With regional competitors like New Zealand offering more flexible pathways, the BIA urges streamlined visa processing to protect Australia's $10.5 billion national boating industry.
