J Class

The three magnificent J Class yachts racing at Les Voiles - Svea, Rainbow and Hanuman are from Day 5’s windward/leeward races on Pampelonne Bay.

Maxis

Despite a forecast for 15-17 knots of breeze, the Maxis made the best of a fitful 8-10 knot easterly on Day 5. The Maxi Div 1 fleet was sent west on a coastal course that finished back in the harbour, while the rest of the Maxi divisions completed two windward/leeward races on the Pampelonne Bay course.

We caught up with three well-known Australian sailors aboard Perth sailor Marcos Vivian’s Wally 84, Astra 1, racing here at Les Voiles de Saint Tropez. Mitch White is crew boss and Tommy Spithill is tactician, while Peter ‘Fletch’ Fletcher joined the team very belatedly when the owner of his original ride pulled out of the regatta at the last minute. Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez 2026 | Will Oxley and Will Ryan

Navigator Will Oxley and mainsail trimer Will Ryan have raced at Les Voiles aboard King Frederik of Denmark’s chartered PAC52 Nanoq for some years now. Nanoq has enjoyed a lot of success at this regatta. Will Oxley tells us something about the challenges of forecasting the breezes and working out a race strategy here, with its numerous rock outcrops. And Will Ryan explains how he briefly left the mainsail sheet in Will Oxley’s hands that day for a quick problem-solving trip to the bow!
