Asia-Pacific Superyacht Association (APSA) and Hong Kong Boating Industry Association Members were invited by Skytopia/HKAA to visit their new brand facility located in the HKIA Commercial building at Hong Kong Airport. Cissy Chan (Executive Director) and Jasmine Kong (Asst GM) from Skytopia/HKAA hosted the group for a tour of the newly opened Brand Centre facility, featuring two dedicated AV presentations and an eye-catching model of the Skytopia development. An outdoor viewing terrace takes in expansive views of the airport and the planned water-based developments. Members were treated to an informative presentation, followed by sunset drinks and some delicious snacks as the sun went down.
The presentation covered planned marina developments at Skytopia, which is just one of many planned developments at HKIA that include an art trading and storage facility, cultural performances, watersports facilities, and hospitality venues that will create a whole new 'ecosystem' linking Hong Kong to the Greater Bay Area. With Skytopia flying the flag, the aim is to make HKIA a destination in its own right, rather than just a place of transit.
Cissy Chan (Executive Director, Skytopia) said that the Festival of Connoisseurs which will take place 4-6 November will be an opportunity for the marine aspect of Skytopia to test the market and show off Hong Kong's new developments in the marine sector. “We will be hosting a small in-water display to show how the marine and luxury sector can combine to introduce a new audience to the joys of being on the water.” (The Festival of Connoisseurs, it should be noted, is organised by the Informa Group, owners of the Monaco Yacht Show, Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, Boat International magazine and a number of other very prestigious boating industry-related properties).
Jasmine Kong (Asst GM, Skytopia) talked about the opportunities that are open to interested parties, saying that "we are planning facilities that range from watersports to superyachts, and provide access to the residents of the GBA who are not yet connected to the water in the same way that Hong Kong is, with its strong sailing and boating communities.
Suzy Rayment (Executive Director APSA) said “there is a momentum in the yachting industry that has not existed before, and the development of representative industry bodies such as APSA and HKBIA has helped to provide valuable input representing the many aspects that are the ecosystem of an active boating industry. The associations are able to advise the Hong Kong Government and its relevant departments on the intricacies of the pleasure boat industry, and this has been a very positive development.”
Both APSA and Skytopia are now looking forward to their next event, the Asia-Pacific Superyacht Night, to be held in Monaco on 22 September, the evening before the Monaco Yacht Show. This is a major international networking event, bringing together over 250 APSA members and sponsors, and allowing for the Asia-Pacific Superyacht community to connect with the global superyacht sector.
APSA and HKBIA members who attended the Skytopia Brand Networking tour included Asia Yacht Press, C & N Marinas, First Eastern, Central Yacht, Cheoy Lee, Gold Coast Yacht and Country Club, HFW, Livart Group, Lantau Yacht Club, Marsh, and Specialized Marine.
