Sixteen races were sailed in up to 17 knots, mostly perfect for A rigs with a few gusts and lulls. Rob Owens broke his mast early on and did Race Offficer duty, Dave Tomlinson (DT) set the course.
With DT's big brother Adrian away Peter Jackson, with a new hull, had comfy wins in the 1st two races with DT then Dave Adams 2nd and Simon Thornton then DT 3rd. Those two again had 3rds in races 3 and 4 but Dave Adams was up to speed with Peter 2nd in both.
After some mark position adjustments with his DF Jim LaRoche joined the fray with a 2nd to Dave's 3rd win in race 5. Mike Brand also joined battle with 3rd. Peter then won race 6, from DT and Mike, as Dave had transmitter problems. Mike then won race 7, from Alan Hounsell, after three 4ths, with Jim 3rd as Peter was OCS, recovering to 4th by a bumper from DT. Dave was back in race 8 but struggled as Peter won again from Simon and Mike. Now back up to speed Dave won race 9, from DT & Peter, to equal Peter's 4 wins and lie a close 2nd over lunch with the next five boats in close order behind.
In race 10 Peter sailed a discard and Dave plugged in the second of 3 wins in a row. Mike and Simon scored 2nds, then reversed that order as Peter stayed off the pace with 4ths. Then the wins started to be shared around the fleet a bit more fairly. Simon, then in race 14 Alan, and in the last race Jim all topped the podium.
Mike scored a 2nd to close up the game behind Dave and Peter but the battle for 3rd went to the wire between Simon, finishing 1, 2, 6, 3, 7, and DT with 3, 4, 2, 4, 4. Equal on points on 42 Simon's win edged 3rd over DT, with Mike 3 points back in 4th.
Peter finished with a 3rd for 36 points but Dave banged in 2, 1, 3, 1, 2 for a comfortable win on 23 points, also bringing him back into the picture overall. Behind Peters 7 is Adrian on 15 but counting a DNC. The next 4 boats, led by Mike, are grouped within 5 points with only 2 events to go.
