IRC Welsh National Championships 2026 at Pwllheli Sailing Club

Despite suffering a man overboard and having to retire from the last race of day one, Adam Kyffin and John Oliver's Eazi Tiger were already looking like strong contenders for the title with two bullets.
Meanwhile in IRC class 1, there was clearly going to be a battle between the top three boats, Chimaera, Impetuous and David Lean's J99 Jackpot, all receiving daily prizes sponsored by Feucht engineering.
Day 2, with calmer conditions, Crompton, Hodges & Miller's Corby, Impetuous was coming to the fore with two bullets in the day, giving them equal points below Barry Cunningham's Chimaera after discards kicked in. For IRC class 2, discards meant that Liverpool's Eazi Tiger could remove their retirement score after another two bullets in the day, securing top spot in the table ahead of fellow club members, Daydream Believer. The day's prizes were sponsored by Partington Marine.
Day 3 saw Eazi Tiger confirm their lead with another two 1sts and a 2nd place, putting them an impressive eleven points ahead. Laura Fitzgerald's Daydream Believer held on to 2nd place just one point ahead of Mark Willis's Katabatic from New Quay Yacht Club.
While in class 1 Chimaera also achieved 1sts in two of the three races, cementing their class position at the top, two points ahead of Impetuous. After enjoying a pontoon reception sponsored by Gimblet Rock Holiday Park while packing up boats and sails, the day's top performers received prizes sponsored by Tudor Estate Agents.
The overall scores from both IRC classes were calculated, along with number of entries and number of races in each class and it was clear to see that Eazi Tiger were the winners of the championship, winning vouchers and merchandise from sponsors, North Sails and Firmhelm boat yard.
In the cruiser class, Theia, dominated the YTC results. The Channel 31 was sailed single handedly by Tim Rouse to take the YTC trophy with runners up Dave Sharp's Blue Sky two points behind. 3rd place was taken by Roger Fitzgerald's Ella Trout. The 89 year old was joined by two more generations of the family, proving that sailing is a sport for all ages.
