BRICS Sailing Championship 2026 Overall

by Olga Zvyagina 7 Sep 11:04 PDT 3-6 September 2026

The waters of the Minsk Sea hosted BRICS Championship 2026 - unique sailing event. More than 50 participants from India, Russia, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan, along with an international jury and honored guests, witnessed three days of intense competition, where sport, friendship, and the cultural traditions of the participating countries merged in a single impulse.

The organizers emphasized that the event carries an important mission - to expand and strengthen international sports ties and share experience.

Over three racing days, the jury successfully made all program with 12 intense races. The weather tested the crews' resilience: the first day started with drizzling rain and gusts of up to 21 knots, on the second day the wind strengthened to stormy 30 knots with downpours, while the final day brought moderate winds of 14-16 knots, allowing the teams to showcase all their skill.

From the first starts, Ptichki Sailing Team, skippered by Elvira Pinchuk, took a confident lead. The crew dominated the course, finishing in the top three in every race, and by the end of the second day had pulled more than 10 points ahead of their rivals. This strategy earned them a well-deserved victory in the regatta and their second winning title in the BRICS Championship standings.

The battle for the remaining podium places was extremely tense. Second place was claimed by Bars Sailing Team, led by Maxim Batrakov, beating their closest rivals by 3 points. Third place on the podium went to Tenzor Team, skippered by Andrey Pushkin, despite a broken rudder in one of the races - the crew did not give up and finished the regatta brilliantly, coming first in the final race.

W Sailing Team, helmed by Petr Bukin, finished fourth, while Butter Sailing Team, in a tight battle with Skolkovo Sailing Team-3, managed to rise to fifth place with a minimal advantage of 1 point.

The races were memorable for dramatic episodes: mass false starts, broaches, and high speeds. Teams from India faced difficulties due to the cold weather and rains, as well as getting acquainted with a new class of sports boats, but they withstood the test with dignity, noting the valuable experience and their desire to improve results in future starts.

The regatta's PRO, Vladimir Komel, highly praised the organization: "Over three days, 12 races were held - that's an excellent result for such changeable conditions."

Concurrently with the races, a business program took place, where experts discussed the development of sailing in India (the BRICS 2026 chair country), the role of women in sailing, international aspects of judging and umpiring, and sailing as a platform for business cooperations.

Elvira Pinchuk, skipper of the winning team: "The organization was on top level. We set ourselves up for the maximum from first day - we had three races win every day. Racing in such conditions with wind up to 30 knots were memorable ad my second experience in life, but the team worked perfect, and we managed it."

Daniil Odintsov, tactician of Tenzor Team (3rd place): "The races were very competitive. Despite the breakdown, we weren't upset - that's sport, and it happens. We are happy to take third place. Regattas like this are the development of sailing on a global scale, and we hope for more events like this."

Pavel Sozykin (Bars Sailing Team, 2nd place): "Dynamic races with serious competition. We were pleased with the water area. The status of BRICS Championship speaks for itself, so of course this project has great prospects!"

The organizers expressed their gratitude to all participants and guests and confirmed their intention to continue the tradition of holding international regattas in Belarus.

The regatta concluded with an awards ceremony. The participating teams received double sets of medals and special prize trophies, made at the oldest Belarusian plant, Neman. Women classification and the international debut were awarded with special prizes.
