A beautiful day in Torbay!

Two races were sailed on the second day of the Noble Marine National Championship, with the day sponsored by FM Sailing.

The fleet were greeted by much more wind than forecast this morning which was a pleasant surprise after the light winds yesterday. A new direction, NW off the land, was set to keep the sailors on their toes.

The fleet launched and the first race got away in 7-15 knots after a short postponement. The top ten at the windward mark had started in different places and sailed different areas of the beat, reflecting the shifty nature of the race course. Ben Whaley / Isobel Stewart rounded the windward mark in the lead, followed by Rory Odell / Henry Jameson and Rob Henderson / Rebecca Videlo.

After an exciting downwind which paid to gybe early Rory Odell / Henry Jameson rounded the gate in the lead, followed by overnight leaders Ian Martin / Emma Hivey and Rob Henderson / Rebecca Videlo.

The leaders split up the second beat but Rory Odell / Henry Jameson maintained their lead, followed by Rob Henderson / Rebecca Videlo and Ben Whaley / Isobel Stewart.

On the final downwind, Ben Whaley / Isobel Stewart gybed first, followed by Ian Martin / Emma Hivey, who would later cross the finishing line in first and second place respectively. Rob Henderson / Rebecca Videlo finished third.

The wind tracked left, and after a short break to reset the course, the second race of the day got under way. It paid to start early, head left and come in on the port lay line.

Rob Henderson / Rebecca Videlo rounded the windward mark in the lead, followed by Jamie Harris / Ellen Main and Joseph Tubb / Emily Curtis.

On the downwind, Terry Hacker / Amelie Hacker carried further on starboard to the right corner and came into the gate first. Rob Henderson / Rebecca Videlo and Rory Odell / Henry Jameson gybed relatively early and arrived at the gate in second and third place respectively.

The top three played the shifts up the second beat and were in the same order at the second windward mark. They all stayed on starboard downwind on a big left hand shift, and after some boat on boat interaction, the final three at the finish were Terry Hacker / Amelie Hacker, Ian Martin / Emma Hivey and Rory Odell / Henry Jameson.

The fleet is now resting their legs, refuelling their bodies and warming their vocal chords ready for Karaoke this evening hosted by FM Sailing.

You can follow all the races on the TracTrac app.
