Registration opens for the 99th Conanicut Yacht Club Around the Island Race

With Labor Day arriving later this year, summer on Narragansett Bay gets one more celebratory weekend—and there is no better way to enjoy it than at the 99th Annual Conanicut Around the Island Race on Sunday, September 6, 2026.
Held annually since 1927, the Around the Island Race is the flagship sailing event of the Conanicut Yacht Club and the crown jewel of Narragansett Bay yacht racing. The classic 20-mile course circles scenic Conanicut Island and traditionally attracts close to 100 boats across racing and cruising classes.
Twenty-seven boats are already registered, creating a diverse fleet ranging from the J/24 Barfly to the R/P 66 Boudicca - Gill Race Team and the 76-foot Falcon. The PHRF Spinnaker fleet includes local favorites Das Blau Max, Moonstone, Phoenix, Safir, Mariposa and The Cat Came Back, alongside a strong group of J/105s and visiting competitors.
The Non-Spinnaker fleet is also taking shape, with Althea, Anegada Da Vida, Bellows, Fireball, Frolic, Mystic and two boats named Relentless ready to take on the course.
Whether you are chasing a class win, enjoying the challenge of sailing around Jamestown or simply looking for one more great day on the water, there is still time to join the fleet.
The celebration will continue after racing at Conanicut Yacht Club. Sailors, families, friends and supporters are encouraged to register separately for the After Racing Social and come together to toast another memorable edition of this historic Narragansett Bay tradition.
With the race approaching its centennial in 2027, this year offers a special opportunity to be part of its continuing history—and to enjoy a longer summer while we have it.
