XOD Captain's Cup at North Sails Cowes Week 2026 - Day 1

by Rory Paton 2 Aug 01:16 PDT 1-7 August 2026

After a delay to let the sea breeze fill in the 60 strong X boat fleet got away first time from the Royal Yacht Squadron line. On a beat to Saltmead early leaders were, Lone Star, Mayfly and Astralita from the middle of the start line. Also going well were Itchenor's youth bursary team in Beaver.

A group of five managed to work their way clear of the chasing pack on a run into Thorness bay and then a beat up to Baxter's with a classic run home to a grandstand finis at the RYS line.

After much rock and sea wall dodging Astralita managed to hold off Lone Star and Gleam with Gone Away in close attendance. A great start to the week. Not much further back Beaver were first youth bursary entry in 10th place.
