ILCA 6 Youth European Championships and Open European Trophy 2026 in Thessaloniki - Day 2

by Agustín Argüelles 15 Jul 02:43 PDT

Racing resumed as scheduled at 15:00 on Day 2 of the 2026 ILCA 6 Youth European Championships & Open European Trophy, with fleets heading back out onto both course areas in the Thermaic Gulf.

Around 30 minutes into the afternoon, with the Girls' Yellow and Blue groups and the Boys' Green group already racing on one course, and the Boys' Yellow group rounding Mark 1 on the other, a major left-hand wind shift forced the Race Committees to abandon all races and reset the courses.

The breeze then built to 10-12 knots as racing got back under way, before easing back to a lighter 5-6 knots as the new set of races progressed.

Despite the interruption, all fleets managed to complete a new race — the third of the championship. The Boys' Green group had the longest wait of the day, held on the water for hours before finally getting their race away at 19:55, once the wind returned, and were back ashore at 20:35.

It was the second of three days of qualifying racing, which will determine how the fleets are split for the final series later in the week.

Three races are planned for each fleet tomorrow, 15 July, on the final day of qualifying, with the first warning signal scheduled for 15:00 (13:00 UTC). Stay tuned to EurILCA's channels for live updates from the courses and the full daily report from Thessaloniki.
