Following the Senior Schools Championships, a fleet of old friends and fresh faces descended upon Itchenor Sailing Club for the Junior Schools Championships. It was quite a sight on Thursday morning to see 80 RS Fevas beating their way down the Itchenor Reach towards the racecourse to get the championship under way.

Day One

And what a championship it was! In Race 1, defending champions Cassius Day & Fallon Day from Ryde School claimed a convincing victory and showed they had no intention of giving up their title easily. Itchenor Sailing Club Members Felix Gladman & Arthur Pattison, representing Seaford College, finished second, while Rafe Bradley & Hannah Yates from Cowes Enterprise College completed the podium.

Shifting winds up the beat brought a host of opportunities in Race 2. Wilbur Palmer & Henry Ross from Portsmouth Grammar School made the most of the conditions as they sailed to first, in their best result of the championship. Cassius and Fallon finished second, with Felix and Arthur close behind in third.

Race 3 saw a repeat of the opening race podium. Cassius and Fallon claimed another win, while Felix and Arthur remained firmly on their heels in second, ensuring the championship was far from decided going into Friday's racing. Rafe and Hannah once again secured third to keep themselves well in contention.

Day Two

With the championship still on the line, in Race 4 Felix and Arthur finished first ahead of Cassius and Fallon, determined to keep the championship within their sights. Theo Fox & Felix Palmer-Ward from Bohunt School claimed an excellent third place.

But the championship was far from decided, and Race 5 produced another twist in the battle for the Feva title. Theo and Felix took their first race win of the championship, while Felix and Arthur finished second to keep the pressure on. Sophia Johnson & Lizzie Gwyther from Sevenoaks School secured third, earning enough points to claim the All-Girl Trophy. With Cassius and Fallon finishing outside the top three, the championship would hang in the balance until the very final race.

Knowing exactly what was at stake, in Race 6 Cassius and Fallon responded in style. They fought hard to stay ahead and retained their narrow lead to take their third race victory of the championship and retain the title for a second consecutive year—as well as Cassius' third Schools Championship title in as many years. Wilbur and Henry finished second, with Rafe and Hannah rounding off the podium in third.

Thank you to Race Officer Paul Ward, and to all the volunteers who pitched in the event on and off the water, for two exciting days of racing. Thanks, too, to Chef Danny who came to the rescue of a hungry fleet.

Overall Results:

All-Girl Trophy: Sophia Johnson & Lizzie Gwyther (Sevenoaks School)
Team Trophy: Sevenoaks School
