Cape 31 Mediterranean Circuit Round 4 in Scarlino - Day 1

by Tor Tomlinson Cheney 10 Jul 11:20 PDT 11-12 July 2026

Round 4 of the Cape 31 Mediterranean Circuit got under way in Scarlino today, with three races completed in beautiful Tuscan conditions to kick off what promises to be another closely fought regatta.

A building sea breeze of 8-12 knots provided perfect racing throughout the day, allowing Principal Race Officer Carlo Giuliano Tosi and the Yacht Club Toscana race management team to complete all three scheduled races.

After an action-packed opening day, La Pericolosa leads the overall standings following a consistent performance across the three races, with Hatari and Stella Maris completing the overnight top three.

Race victories were shared between Hatari, Chisum and G-Spot, highlighting once again the incredible depth of talent across the Cape 31 Mediterranean Circuit fleet.

One of the standout performances of the day came from newcomer Chisum, who announced themselves in style by winning a race on their very first day of Cape 31 racing.

Another impressive story unfolded aboard Stella Maris, where just weeks after winning Round 3 in Bonifacio, the Austrian team sits third overall with 16-year-old Austrian Optimist Champion Carla Waltersdorfer taking the helm. Her composed performance in a highly competitive international fleet has been one of the highlights of the opening day.

With only a handful of points separating much of the fleet, everything remains to play for as the championship contenders head into the final two days of racing.

Tor Tomlinson Cheney, Mediterranean Class Manager, said: "Today perfectly summed up what the Cape 31 Mediterranean Circuit is all about. We had three different race winners, fantastic racing conditions and some brilliant stories emerging throughout the fleet. It's fantastic to see new teams like Chisum making such an immediate impact, while Carla has done an incredible job stepping into the helm of Stella Maris. With six races still to sail, the competition is wide open."

Racing resumes tomorrow in Scarlino, with another three races scheduled as the battle for Round 4 continues.
