No wind for the second day of InShore trials, but the island is preparing to reward the champions of the Napoli-Portoferraio race and the kings of foil acrobatics. Tomorrow the Figaro 3 depart for the final leg of the Giro d'Italia a Vela.
The law of the sea sometimes requires patience. The sailors of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour know this well, having had to contend with a total calm yesterday, July 8th. The lack of wind forced the race committee to cancel the second consecutive day of InShore trials.
While the race course remained still, the fleet's enthusiasm now moves to the dock for the grand awards ceremony that officially closes the spectacular Portoferraio leg.
Offshore champions and foil kings: the night of verdicts
Tonight's ceremony will celebrate the teams that best understood the perils of the Tyrrhenian Sea and pure speed over short distances. The spotlight will first be on the winners of the grueling Offshore race from Naples to Portoferraio, a sea-going event that severely tested the crews' endurance and the sailors' strategic choices along the route to Elba.
Alongside the offshore champions, the winners of the spectacular Inshore races held in the waters around Elba will also stand on the podium. Providing adrenaline in recent days were the foiling acrobats: the very young Waszp singles and the WingFoil riders, who made their boards fly across the island's waters, demonstrating exceptional responsiveness even in the lightest of breezes.
Today the fleet sets sail again: heading for the Lanterna
With the Elba leg over, there's no time to rest for the sailors. Their attention is already turned to today, July 9th, when the Figaro 3 will set sail at 11:00 a.m. It will be the final chapter, the decisive leg of the circumnavigation of Italy, with the bows pointing north toward one destination: Genoa. These will be intense nautical miles, where every gust of wind and every tactical decision will weigh like millstones on the overall ranking.
Genoa awaits the champions: the grand finale at the Palazzo Ducale
The final countdown has already begun. After the crews' arrival under the Lanterna and the official conclusion of all the competitions at sea, scheduled for July 11th, the final act of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour will move to a setting of immense historical and cultural prestige.
The sumptuous Sala del Maggior Consiglio in the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa will host the final awards ceremony and the official closing of the Giro d'Italia a Vela. A stage of honor to crown this year's kings of the seas.
